Come Fall For Rats, Hillsboro Or.

Come Fall for Rats was November 3 and the rats and I had a wonderful time! It was great to see so many rats and their people all in one place. JOY Aang took best in section, unstandardized marked kitten, and SITH Joplin took Reserve Best in Show kitten. Here's some pictures of them with their ribbons:

Also welcome newcomers to Panzy's Place Rattery: ROUS Perth from Rodents of Unusual Sweetness in Seattle, and Vara from Best Friend Rodent Rescue in Lake Stevens, WA.

Halloween Fun

Sarah D. who adopted little Fauna (nee Waterstrider) from the Pond Litter, took this awesome picture of her wearing a witchy hat and peeking out of a pumpkin. I am always impressed with people who can get their rats to wear hats, even if its just for a couple of seconds. Sarah had this to say about Fauna: " Fauna is doing very well, and growing fast!  She isn't afraid of anything and is more of an explorer than most.  Often I find my other girls afraid of new things, she however is not and loves to hang with me.  Thank you so much for producing such a wonderful companion!"

You're Welcome Sarah!

The Pond Litter and Fall Show fun!

Lily's remaining three babies are doing well! They are growing like bad little weeds. Or more like cute little fluffy dust bunnies. The littlest girl is doing excellent and you can't even tell now that she was ever smaller. I decided to name the babies after things that live in ponds because dad's name is Shrimp and mom's name is Lily (as in 'lily' pad). I still have one baby available from this litter. See my available litters page for more information. You must have a similar aged same sexed baby already at home (or lined up with another breeder) before you can adopt her.

I also attended the Fall Show in Port Orchard and had a lot of fun! It was great to see other rat breeders and to participate in the show. I only took 3 rats, but two of the three came home with a ribbon, so I was pleased. SITH Dragonfly won most kissiest, and SITH Shrimp most unusual.

On Friday, August 31, PNZY Lily gave birth to 7 babies sired by SITH Shrimp. She's not producing enough milk for them all, so she lost 4 babies over the weekend. We are down to just 3 girls. 2 girls look fat and healthy, so I think they have a good shot of making it. 1 girl is a lot smaller, so she might lose her too. :(

Expecting eepers any day now!

I decided to do a litter here because I just couldn't wait until Spring to get a baby fix. So I bred PNZY Lily to SITH Shrimp and Lily is expecting any day now! I had planned this breeding a long time ago, but was forced to put it off due to health problems. Hoping and praying that Lily has a safe delivery!

I do have some sad news about the joint litter with JATS rats. Mimosa lost all her babies. She had one baby just fine, but it passed away the next morning. Then she had to be rushed to the vet because a baby was still stuck inside her. A shot of oxytocin and a day later, she finally gave birth to 2 more stillborn pups. Since Mimosa is an older doe, I'm not sure if her owner would want to try this breeding again.

But I have more joint litters with SITH rattery on the way soon. So there may be a chance at some SITH Dragonfly babies yet...

Long overdue post

Sorry for the long silence, but lots has happened at Panzy's Place the last few months. First the bad news: I've lost a few precious ratties since I last posted. Pocky passed away May 4th of jaw cancer. His last few months were made quite happy by Rose, a spayed female from Best Friend Rodent Rescue. I also lost Charybdis to a mammary tumor, and Lady from the nampa rescue. I am not sure what the cause of death was in Lady's case. Both passed away in April.

Now on to the good news! I went to Ratapalooza in Seattle in May. My babies did very well, taking several Best in Variety and Best in Section. After a break to deal with some health issues, Panzy's Place is back in action. I have several joint litters planned for Fall with SITH and JATS ratteries. Babies will be raised at other ratteries, so I will not get another baby fix until Spring, but check my web site for information about the joint litters.

We have eepers!

Yesterday, SITH Anastasia gave birth to 11 little ones! The delivery took longer than usual and I was beginning to get a bit concerned. Birth started at about 7 AM and went on until early afternoon. Usually birth only takes about 20 min to 2 hours. I'm happy to report that mom and babies are all doing well and the babies have nice milk tummies this morning. Pictures coming soon!

Pocky's Accident

Pocky and Russet have been fighting and that must be how Pocky's eye got injured. It was bloody and had a small gash near the front. The lens was clouded with blood and the eye very swollen. I took Pocky to the vet and we started aggressively treating for infection and swelling and I'm happy to report that his eye looks much better this morning. Swelling is almost down. Here's a picture of Pocky wearing the cone of shame in the hospital cage:

Today I took the cone off of him and he is leaving his eye alone. He is very happy to have the cone off!

Russet and Anastasia.

Russet and Anastasia are currently together. I'm hoping for babies sometime in early February. Expecting black, russian blue, russian blue agouti, fawn and possibly beige. Markings will be self, Irish and roan. There is a small chance of manx. Half will be rex. All will be dumbo. Mom and dad both have exceptional temperaments, so I'm very excited about this litter!
