I lost Casper this morning, my little New Mexico rescue. Casper came to me from a group of 30 rats who were pulled out of a hoarder's home in NM. Most of the 200 rats were given to a wildlife sanctuary as food, but Casper was one of the lucky few that made it out alive. He was pulled from the shelter in Las Crucas and flown to the Pacific NW with the help of many volunteers.
Casper was an affable rat, friendly to all. He did not like being picked up at first, but he soon learned that getting picked up got him a treat, and the scritches weren't so bad either. He won best rescue story at Come Fall For Rats 2010. His cagemate Lady and I will miss him! Scritches and yogies to you, Casper!

Another hard goodbye and some good news
I suffered another loss recently. RMIS Kay went to the bridge on the 11th of November. He had an internal tumor that got to be painful. He was a favorite of mine. Always the first out of the cage and not interested in treats, only interested in snuggling with me. It has been a week and a half since he left but I am still overwhelmingly sad. Rats are hard sometimes!
The good news is everyone else seems to be doing fine! The little girls, Anastasia and Catherine, went to both the Fall Show and Come Fall For Rats and they did really well! Pocky is now my oldest rat and he's doing great! He's too fat for his own good, having won squishiest at the Port Orchard show. Russet is now my first out of the cage boy and he beat out his brother for longest tail at the Port Orchard show also. Our next show isn't until February the 11th. We will be going to Ratstravaganza in New Westminster, BC.
And PNZY Snow White, aka Sally, is pregnant by PNZY Prince Charming! She is due to give birth around the 26th of November! We are expecting black, beige, and russian blue. All will be roan and dumbo, half will be rex. This litter will be raised by Brandon Fry of Breakfast Bunch Rattery.

Another Goodbye
I've had another loss here at Panzy's Place. My beloved Milly went to the bridge Sunday the 18th of September. Far too soon! She was a rescue from Little Mischief. Her mother, having just given birth to Milly and her siblings, was found in an alley in the DTES section of Vancouver BC.
Milly was a sweet, sweet girl who liked to weave her head back and forth in an exaggerated manner, to better see. She will be missed! Play hard at the bridge Milly!

Rat Camp, a Goodbye and a Hello
Lots of recent news here at Panzy's Place. Rat Camp 2011 was held at the Boardman house over labor day weekend and it was a blast! I got to hang out with my fellow rat peeps for a whole weekend. Judge's training was on Friday nite and we had a BBQ on Saturday. I got to meet JoAnne of Best Friend Rodent Rescue. I will be fostering some rats for her after the Fall Show. We played rationary on Saturday nite. On Sunday, we said our goodbyes until the Fall Show in 3 weeks.
Now some sad news. BooBoo was breathing heavily when I came home despite being on meds for a URI. He got worse overnight and I decided it was time to help him to the bridge. I laid him to rest next to his brother, Ickis, in the back yard. My favorite thing about Boo Boo was when he would come running up to me during free range time when I entered the room. Little guy, you will be missed!

Now for some happy news. Two little girls came home to me from Lizzy of SITH rattery. Their names are SITH Catherine and SITH Anastasia, out of SCH PNZY Prince Charming and SITH Adora. When Anastasia grows up, she will become a mommy and maybe Catherine will too! Visit my planned breedings page for more info!

Congratulations Prince and Cindy!
SGC PNZY Prince and PNZY Cindy, owned by Lizzy at SITH rattery, did remarkably well at Ratarama 2011. Prince won Best In Show with a 100% score, so he gets to add the designation of SGC (Supreme Grand Champion) to his name. Cindy won Reserve of Show with a 95% score. I'm sure proud of both these kids!

Welcome home Snow White!
Snow White came home last week. She looks good and is getting along with her new cage mates. I told Brandon of Breakfast Bunch Rattery that if circumstances changed in the short term, if he moved out or his apartment manager changed her mind, he could have Snow White back.
Here is a couple of pictures taken of Snow White earlier today:

An update
I haven't posted on this blog in awhile and thought I'd give a little update. All the babies went to their new homes. I had intended to keep Ozma and Prince, but the sewer line to my house needed repaired and I was thinking of walking away since I didn't have the money and was afraid I'd have to rehome all my rats. I had applied for a loan and fortunately it came through, but not after I had already homed my sweet dears. Fortunately, they went to good homes and one of them, Prince, went to a breeding home so I can use his genes later.
I am getting one rat back though. Snow White. Not because of anything bad about her but because her owner's apartment manager said his rats would have to go. I will post updated pictures of her when she gets here.
For now, here's some pictures of FlyCatcher and Tarzan all grown up! I will miss Tarzan when he goes to his new home on June 9th. He is such a special boy!

Babies are growing up so fast!
The babies are growing so fast! They all have their eyes open now and some are even popcorning around! There were 9 roan, 2 self, and 1 Irish. We had a manx turn up in the litter too! The gene is so far back it doesn't even show on the ped anymore! How lucky is
that! Here are some pics of the babies at 15 days old! There is still one rb roan girl left.

SITH Russet X DMTN Lizzy, Babies are here!
Lizzy rat had 12 perfect little pinkies this morning at 7:45! Mom and babies are doing fine. Lots of pictures to come!

SITH Russet X DMTN Lizzy, Babies due any day now!
Lizzy rat is expecting babies any day now! I am calculating how many she will have in advance by keeping track of her weight gain. She has gained 143grams so far. At 10g per pinky, that's 14 eepers! Time will only tell if my method of calculating is correct! Here's Lizzy showing off her preggers belly!

RussetXLizzy, Love on the rocks.
Russet and Lizzy didn't hit it off at first. Lizzy wouldn't submit and Russet got frustrated because Lizzy wouldn't cooperate. They had a few big scuffles before I decided to call it quits the first night. The second night went much better. It seems they have established who the dominate rat is (I think it's Lizzy!) and can now get down to business. I'm hoping that a successful breeding will take place within the next few days.
